Bookstore and library shelves are full of “how to” books. Americans clamor for the latest, greatest secrets to success. Whether we want to know how to succeed in business or our personal life, God’s Holy Word is the only guide any of us needs. In fact, all we need to know about “life and godliness” (2 Pet. 1:3) can be found in Holy Scripture.

Rule 1. Pray for one another. “...Pray for one another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much” (Jam. 5:16).

Rule 2. Exhort and encourage one another. “But exhort one another daily, while it is called Today; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin” (Heb. 3:13).

Rule 3. Edify and comfort one another. “For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him. Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing” (1 Thess. 5:9-11).

Rule 4. Confess when we wrong one another. “Confess your trespasses to one another …” (Jam. 5:16).

Rule 5. Love one another, even when it is not convenient. Love all the time. “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another” (Jn. 13:34).

Rule 6. Prefer one another. “Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another” (Rom. 12:10).

Rule 7. Serve one another. “For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another” (Gal. 5:13).

Rule 8. Bear with one another. “Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do” (Col. 3:12-13).

Rule 9. Submit to one another. “Giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another in the fear of God” (Eph. 5:20-21).

Rule 10. Spur on one another. “And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works” (Heb. 10:24).

Rule 11. Be hospitable to one another. “And above all things have fervent love for one another, for love will cover a multitude of sins. Be hospitable to one another without grumbling” (1 Pet. 4:8-9).

Rule 12. Greet one another. “Greet one another with a holy kiss…” (Rom. 16:16).

The greatest success in the world cannot be measured in dollars and cents, but in the character one possesses. God’s way is the only way to realize the true success that He has prepared for His children.
