A GOSPEL MEETING IS A CHALLENGE TO OUR FAITH in the power of the gospel. Do we believe that the gospel will save men? Do we believe it has the power to change the lives of men? Are there people that we feel the gospel will not do any good? If so, it is an indication that we do not believe the power of the gospel. If we do not believe that the gospel has power enough to change the lives of men then we might as well not have the meeting.
A GOSPEL MEETING IS A CHALLENGE TO EVERY MEMBER of the church to work. Nothing will succeed without work. This is true of a meeting. We have drifted into thinking that a meeting can be successful by just running an ad in the paper and making a few announcements. These things should be done, but they will not take the place of every member working for the meeting. If the meeting is not worth working for, it is not worth having.
A GOSPEL MEETING IS A CHALLENGE OF OUR INTEREST. Our meeting will show where our heart is. It will separate the sheep from the goats. To be a Christian is to be interested in the lost and to be interested in the lost is to be busy trying to save them by using our opportunities during the meeting. There is something wrong with a person’s heart that claims to be a CHRISTIAN AND IS NOT INTERESTED IN A GOSPEL MEETING.
A GOSPEL MEETING IS A CHALLENGE TO THE DEVIL. It is saying to the devil, “You are in for a fight, and we are not giving you an inch.” Let us press the battle against him. For too long we have let the devil have his way. Let us meet him on every corner with sword drawn.
A GOSPEL MEETING IS A CHALLENGE TO ERROR. Error and false doctrine are the right hand tools of the devil. The gospel will be preached and error opposed. Let us back it up without fear or apology.
